Writing: This quarter we work on informational writing. We will write a how-to piece where we do a craft in class and students write a how-to book. This is super fun and the kids always enjoy it! Then we write informational pieces about insects with a partner. Finally, we write informational pieces of famous Georgians independently. This ties in our Social Studies units of famous Georgians. Their pieces will introduce the topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section. Students will also work on revising and editing their pieces to make them their best work! IB Unit: We are on our second IB unit now. The Central Idea is "Living things adapt to their environment." We have learned about the rivers and regions of Georgia. We have discussed how people and animals can use the natural resources found in each area. We are now beginning to learn about the Creek and Cherokee Native Americans, with a focus on how they would use the rivers and regions. Next, we will start our 3rd IB Unit. The Central Idea is "relationships impact outcomes." We are going to relate this CI with Tomochichi, Mary Musgrove, and James Oglethorpe. The relationship between the three of those famous Georgians definitely impacted how our state was formed! We will also study how pushes and pulls work and how they impact what happens in the world.
